Waylon, an orange and white tabby, rivals Houdini as an escape artist. The one-year-old cat chewed through a dryer vent and escaped from Daniel Johns' home just hours after he was adopted last summer.
Waylon's wanderings took him to Colorado, almost 2000 miles from his Naples, Florida home. A woman found him while walking her dog December 21st and took him to the Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden, Colorado. No word on whether he made a stop at the Coors Brewery during his stay.
Shelter workers traced the feline's microchip and alerted his owner that he was safe. Johns traveled to Golden to retrieve him January 4th.and take him back to Naples. I guess that makes him a Golden Retriever (I just couldn't resist the urge to write that pun).
Since Waylon can't tell Johns about his journey, it will probably remain a mystery, although a Florida vet speculated that someone from Colorado probably found him in or near Naples and thought he'd make a great pet. Ham on Wry hopes that Johns has repaired the dryer vent and blocked all exit paths.
