The Odd Couple: Trump and Palin
Posted on 12:03 by Unknown
Times Square gawkers might have glimpsed Donald Trump and his wife accompanied by Sarah Palin, her parents, and youngest daughter, arriving in a stetch limo to dine at a local pizza restaurant Tuesday. If that doesn't constitute an odd pairing, I cant't imagine what would. Trump lives in an ostentatious penthouse in Manhattan and has enjoyed a high-profile existence for most of his life. Palin presents as a country girl who loves hunitng, fishing, and a more down-to-earth lifestyle. It's rather like The Beverly Hillbillies meet Richie Rich. What could they possibly have in common? Apparently a mutual admiration society.
In response to a reporter's question, Palin responded, "What do we have in common? Our love for this country, a desire to see our economy put back on the right track." Since she speaks mainly in genralities rather than specifics, that leaves me wondering how she would improve the economy, especially since Alaska is one of the few states that has no money woes. She added that Trump and she share a similar world view. Does that mean that he can see Russia from his three-story penthouse?
As for Trump, when asked if he would support Palin for President, he stated, "She didn't ask me for that. She came up as friends. She's a great woman, a terrific woman and a terrific friend. I'd love her to run." I pale at the vision of those two joining forces in the next election. On the one hand, we have a person who has limited interaction with foreign nations. When she ran for Vice-President in 2008, she had visited just three foreign nations. As governor of Alaska, Palin had little experience with the state's cross-border issues and obtained her first passport in 2006. As mentioned in a previous blog, I shudder at the thought of her interacting with other members of the G8. She would have difficulty following the complexities discussed at those meetings.
Do us all a favor, Donald and Sarah. Stick with entertainment. That world allows ample space for your insatiable desire for media coverage.
