Kasi and Mtani at Busch Gardens in April
Meet Kasi (One With Speed) and Mtani (Close Friend), two best friends living in perfect harmony at Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida. Kasi's mother couldn't care for him, so the Jacksonville Zoo sent him to Busch Gardens because of plans to open a cheetah exhibit along with a new rollercoaster called Cheetah Hunt. Mtani joined him a few weks later to keep him company because he would not have fared well with the older cheetahs.
Remember the Stevie Wonder song Ebony and Ivory? It suits this situation perfectly and can serve as a reminder to humans how much we botch relationships with people who differ markedly from us. What am I saying? We botch all kinds of relationships, whether with friends, family, lovers, strangers, or enemies. If two different species can form a lasting bond, why do we humans fail so miserably at it?
Republicans and Democrats could learn many lessons from these two pals. According to Julie Scardina, Animal Ambassador for Busch Gardens and Sea World, Kasi and Mtani will have a lifelong friendship, which I am certain with be free of disappointment. Kasi realizes that Mtani is a dog and vice versa, but Julie emphasize that they have learned to respect each other. Wow! What a concept! Respect! That term doesn't apply to Congress currently. It is also sorely lacking in businesses who have forgotten to show respect ot their clients and customers. As Aretha sang, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me.
Thank you, Kasi and Mtani, for setting an example and reminding us about the importance of courtesy.
