Ham on Wry doesn't usually resort to name calling, but the idiot who conceived this "brilliant" idea should be removed from the committee, along with others who approved it. This isn't just a Halloween prank or a joke done in poor taste, it shows a total lack of respect for the leader of this nation. It is more objectionable than the blast e-mail that dominated the internet, accusing President Obama of having foreign citizenship. Louden County should disown its GOP committee and start over again.
The Chairman of Virginia's Republican Party, Pat Mullins, called the e-mail "disgusting," while Tucker Martin, spokesperson for Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, said it was "shameful and offensive." Ham on Wry couldn't agree more with their assessments. Add to that totally unconscionable and shameful, and it sums up this blog's opinion.
The Louden County GOP committee has since apologized, but it did little to assuage the damage already done. In fact, it increases Ham on Wry's outrage. "The Loudon County Republican Committee yesterday sent an email to its members that represented a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday," the country's GOP chairperson Mark Sell.explained. The next part of his statement defies logic. "Apparently, some individuals have interpreted an image of Barack Obama that appeared within the email as intending to portray the president as a victim of a violent crime. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression that was left. The LCRC deplores any effort to display, suggest or promote violence against the president or any other political figure."
Oh really, Mr. Sells. Perhaps you need to revisit the effective use of satire, and, by the way, you should have said satiric humor or just satire in your statement. Shame on you for trying to explain this as a "light-hearted" attempt as humor. Nothing in that message conveys light-hearted humor. Your committee's decision was absolutely despicable and would be despicable no matter which politician you targeted. You need a long time-out to rethink what you've done!
