| Richard Branson's Necker Island Mansion |
Lightning struck Richard Branson's eight-bedroom Great House on Necker Island in the Caribbean during Tropical Storm Irene Monday. All twenty guests staying at the house escaped the blaze that completely destroyed the house. Branson credits Kate Winslet, who was visiting with her two children, with the rescue of his 90-year-old mother Eve. Winslet sprang into action, swooped Mrs. Branson into her arms and ran to safety. After fleeing the fire, Winslet remarked, "It's like being in a film set where you're waiting for the words 'cut' but they just don't come," according to Branson. He and his wife, Joan, and son, Sam, were staying in one of the five villas surrounding the Great House when the fire broke out.

| Actress Kate Winslet Saved Branson's Mother |
Branson plans to rebuild the palatial estate quickly, so that his daughter and her fiance can marry there in December as planned. He has owned the island for over thirty years and has developed it into a tropical paradise, leaving much of the natural habitat to preserve the ecology of the land. Stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Robert De Niro have frequented the island as paying guests at a cost of $54,000 per night.
Ham on Wry congratulates Ms. Winslow on her bravery in saving Branson's mother and sends Mr.Branson hopes for a timely reconstruction.
