Three men have been arrested in the Swat Valley, Malala's home region, for the crime, but the mastermind remains at large.
Rather than silencing the criticism aimed at the TTP, their senseless act has rallied worldwide support, notably in evidence yesterday, October 11, the "International Day of the Girl Child" proclaimed by the UN as an annual event.
UNICEF on October 11 tweeted, "Today our thoughts are with Malala Yousafzai, the inspirational 14-year-old activist for girls' rights."
Malala's condition has improved enough to transfer her to a hospital in Rawalpindi after surgeons removed a bullet that passed through her head and lodged in her shoulder. Her condition has been upgraded from critical to satisfactory, but doctors can't predict whether she'll regain all of her abilities.
Ham on Wry applauds Malala's courage and joins with supporters everywhere hoping for her full recovery. She serves as a reminder to us all that we must demand rights for girls and women everywhere. We have reached a tipping point, and all of us must find a way to ensure the education of girls in every country. They will help shape our global future and end the harsh treatment of females.
